Hello: I have a 1999 Camry CE, 4 cylinder and the rear drum brake backing plates are rusted out and need replacing. The part number is 4704332020. However, this part number is obsolete and I can't find it anywhere. I see a similar part for a 2002 Camry, 47043-33020. Does anyone know if this will work for a 1999 Camry. If not, how do I go about finding a substitute for the now obsolete part 47043-32020. Any help / suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

 

I am not sure if that part number will work. That being said, I know people can custom fab them up with some sheet metal.
I'm not recommending this but I know a guy who used aluminum pizza pans in place of those dust shields.

 

Since the part is obsolete, you may have luck finding used backing plates at auto salvage yards. Look for yards specializing in Toyota vehicles or those with a large inventory of older cars. However, keep in mind that these used parts will likely be rusted as well. I agree with @Patonium that your best long-term solution would be having a machine shop or specialized auto parts fabricator create a custom backing plate based on your original part.

 

Bought a hub from a salvage dealer in California and only knew they only deal with Toyota. Bought two. Did some rebuilding and put on. Came with all I needed including backplate. Can't recall place but minimal rust. 1995 Camty v6 LE

Did you find anything on your back plate for your Camry? I was checking on line as I am looking for my 2001 Camry and the part number doesn't seem to match the part number above. Mine is 46503-20010. Are you sure you have the right part number? Please keep me posted as I am curious too. Thanks

 

Yes, I am sure I have the right part numbers for the rear drum brake backing plates (not dust shields in the rear, since these backing plates actually hold the drum brake components in place). The rear right is: 47043-32020 and the rear left is: 47044-32020. I have not found a solution yet. Seems strange that even Dorman or other aftermarket companies do not make these. My 1999 Camry is the V4 2.2L CE version, automatic, without anti-lock brakes.
