Over heating sitting still

Im new to the "Yota" world. Just wondering if anyone knows of a common problem that would cause a 01' Camry to over heat after sitting still after about 5min but once the a/c or heat is turned on the temp drops. Common sense tells me the fan isnt kicking on but is there anything that is common to go out on this car?

before you start up the car, open up the hood and remove the radiator cap. check to see how low the fluid level is, then top it off to the very top, and make sure you leave the cap off. then start up the engine and let it warm up. watch to see if the fluid level goes down, and if so, re-fill. if the fluid level was never low, or if it doesn't go low after running, the thermostat may be sticking. you may want to have it replaced, and maybe while you're at it, have the cooling system flush and refilled with fresh coolant.
