Repacking Wheel Bearings

For a 1989 Camry, how often should I repack front and rear wheel bearings?

Also, I recall on my 1986 Tercel that there's a certain number of tire spins that I can use to determine proper nut tightness, but is there a torque setting?

In other words, how do I know when I've tightened the nut?

Finally, is there a wheel packer bearing tool you'd recommend or is by hand fine?

Thanks!

Wheel bearings are ball type, sealed and very difficult to access.

I have a 1995 Camry V6 LE and have not done it yet but completed the task on many vehicles. In the old days you could repack but today the ones I have worked on are part of the steering knuckle ( must be removed), brought in to press out and install a new one, unless you have a press. They also last much longer.

This will take some time.

I am thinking about replacing since do not know how long they have been on there and will hear that noise.
