Shuts down when hot

1993 Camry 2.2L, 4 Cyl. Drives smooth for 10 min. then engine dies and will not restart for approx. 1 hour. Restarts but problem repeats itself after 10 min. of driving.

Does the engine die when on the road at speed or at stop lights?

Make sure the engine has just as good of spark engine cold as hot. Check ign coil for cracks.

Make sure the fuel pump is still running when hot. The fuel pump runs only during engine cranking and when running.

There should be a small box in the engine compartment labeled "Diagnostic." Inside the box are electrical terminals. Electrically jump the B+ and FP terminals. This will bypass all relays and allow the pump to run when the ign switch is turned on.

You can obtain cans of something called freeze or cold spray. The chemical when sprayed on components cools them down. When engine is hot and dies, can spray suspect items with cold spray and note if this temporarily fixes the problem.

Shuts down when hot

Thanks toyomoho for the excellent suggestions. The engine dying occurs at while driving road speed. I am leaning toward ignition coil problem. Haven't had time today to continue testing.
