Trying to replace a headlight wire
 

I just bought a 93 real cheap. The engine is in great shape, the car still has some minor problems. My current goal is to get the left headlights working again. The previous owner apparently needed to replace the low beam socket and just clipped off the old one and spliced a new one on and did a terrible job. It will turn on, but I have to pushed the wires together at the crimping sleeve where the splice is and it will go out when the car hits a bump. I'm considering replacing the wire, but can't tell where it goes. Does anyone have any experience with this?

What color is the wire?

You can't replace the sleeve with a new one? If the wire ends are too short to mate, use 2 sleeves to splice in a longer section of wire.

I had to do the same, thinking it was the bulb first, but it basically won't stay engaged with the socket. I replaced the socket, but it still doesn't stay together. The socket looks like it has gotten hot and melted around one of the posts. This was true of the stock one as well. Any ideas?

1. many parts stores sell generic sockets that work with a particular make
2. salvage yards. just find one that fits
3. my son's Eclipse is SUPER crammed under the hood, and I have big hands. His driver side headlight died, and it's apparent one wire issue and it is not worth my time, cassing, and effort to take half front apart. Hence, I simply cut into the same wire on the pass side, and ran shunt ot the driver side. To make this task easy, they sell small plastic wire splicing boxes. what it does, it splices 2 wires together without need to cut wires. simply clips 2 wires together, with sharp prongs punching through insulation and creating parallel current flow. "Quick Splices".
