VX20 Headliner Question - To staple or not to staple??

Howdy,
I'm the proud owner of 97 Camry v6, I’ve had it for around 10 years, 300,000km and I’m still very happy.
Now I know headliner topics come up regularly but the question I have is simple - do I staple the headliner?

The only real concern I have is the staples may punch through the roof, so does anyone have a suggestion to what size staple I might try?

I plan to use some flexible plastic pieces (source not yet known) as ribs and staple through them to provide (hopefully) a quick fix that should last a year or more.

Any replies are greatly appreciated.

I tried that a long time ago with same vehicle I got frustrated I can't get the right size.

Try this 3M™ Super 77 Multipurpose Adhesive, it's a lot easier to use and it will look much better.

no adhesives work on headliner. do not waste time.
I used regular paper staples. and a lot of them. looks like chit, but works.
it'll keep sagging. your only bet is to remove it completely, as in underlying hard board or whatever it is, clean it off headliner foam perfectly, and then glue something matching over. we used Naugahyde, actually, came up very cool, sorta leather finish look.
