95 Camry XLE - Interior Light Problem

Interior light stays on when doors are closed on my 95 Camry XLE 4 dr, 4 cyl, AT. I had to pull the fuse to get the light to go out (radio light is controlled by this fuse as well). What might be the problem(s) and how do I troubleshoot?

The light has a multi-position switch on the fixture. One position is always on, check this. If in the correct position for the door switch function check the door switch buttons, all need to be pushed in for the light to go off.

light switch is in the correct position and door switches appear to be functioning (mechanically) properly. should i pull the door switch(es) and check the connections/wiring?

Something seems amiss.

The dome light always has power to one element of the bulb. The dome light switch directs the wiring of the other element of the bulb (call this element B) to the chassis.

When the switch is set to Off, element B is not grounded and the bulb should be off.

When the switch is set to On, element B is grounded to the chassis at the switch and the bulb should be on.

When set to Door, the switch connects element B to the door switch wiring.

Unless there is a problem with the light fixture switch you should always be able to turn the bulb off.

Start checking the bulb fixture. Make sure when the switch is set to Off, element B is not grounded.
