Default brake light issue

93 Camry. When I push brake pedal the bulb failure indicator on the dash comes on. In checking the bulbs all are ok. With headlights and running lights off if I step on the brake pedal the front side markers come on. Evidently a short but where would be the best place to start. Any help would be appreciated!

Let me clarify- the brake lights do work but the bulb sensor light indicates a bad bulb and with all running lights off when I step on the brake pedal the brakes lights do come on - but the front marker lights come on also.

Run a test by removing all the brake light bulbs then setting up the situation you stated where the front running lights come on.

Check all dual filament bulbs to determine if one filament has broken off and falling on the other. The result may be power feed back into the wiring other the the brakes.

Check the wiring where it goes from the chassis to the trunk lid for damage.

Removed tailight bulbs and same scenario. Opened trunk and marker lights did not come on. Closed trunk markers came on. Took covering and tape off chasis to lid harness and 4 wires broken. Case closed. Thank you for the assist!
