Default A/C fan blower problem?

1993 Camry LE..

When using the A/C, there are the 2 settings to use to either "recycle" air or "fresh" air in from the outisde of the car.

The air flow thrust drops when swiching from "recycle" to "fresh in" air mode...Is this drop in thrust correct, or do I have a problem somewhere??

It also still drops even when cracking a door window open...I figured this would help the thrust since the fresh air mode is drawing air in from the outside...

Is there a probelm somewhere?

Don't know.

In older cars (1980's) the outside air was aided by some kind of scoop below the windshield. This gave a ram air effect.

Newer cars have no scoop, the air must be drawn in via the fan. In many cars outside air will not circulate without the fan being on.

On recycle often a door opens to draw passenger compartment air into the climate system. The open door bypasses a lot of air ducting that goes to the fresh air inlet. Less ducting may mean less resistance to air movement.
