Code: P0172
Ive never used a forum before so bare with me.
I have a 99 Camry 2.2L has 280K+
It started choking when given very little gas, and a very rough idle when put in reverse. Sometimes had to somewhat feather the gas pedal from a stop sign. Had the codes pulled and the only one that came up was P0172.
I researched, running rich in bank #, blah blah, but no real definite solution.
Changed out the TPS and the Coolant temp sensor, new air and fuel filters, plugs as well. Plugged battery back in and test drove it, engine light stayed off and it drove normal. I took it out 30mins later and it ran like **** again. Rough idle at stop, sometimes it evens out and other times it has died, cant give it too little gas from a stop or it chokes on fuel it seems, and then other times it seems normal... and the engine light came back on

I'm new to Toyota's so maybe an expert will chime in but in the mean time: Clean the MAF or replace. Again, I'm not familiar with your car but this along with vacuum leaks, o2 sensor(s). I had this same issues in my monte carlo and I ended up replacing coolant temp sensor, T-stat, o2 sensors, and the cat. I hope this helps.

Hi,
I have Camry, 2010 automatic, with 78000 miles on it, and I guess it is V6.
The main problem is that It has a very rough idle when put in reverse (trembles). I have the following codes: P0172, P0014.
The engine light illuminates very rarely.
Thank you,
mlearnx

P0014 is a problem with the oil control valve for the Bank 1 exhaust camshaft VVTi.
There is a service bulletin on this. See link below:
http://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/TSb/...dPdf?id=170768
The bulletin has a drawing showing the location of the identified parts labeled as No 3.
Its possible the oil screen as identified in the service bulletin is the plugged. However to access the screen requires some work.
Suggest reading up on the P0014 code for this engine which is 2GRFE.
P0172 is fuel system too lean, Bank 1. Same bank as the problem oil control valve. One code is most likely connected to another.
