Computer not communicating after replacing battery

Hello all, I have a 2001 Camry that had a dead battery, replaced the battery, went to smog my car and the smog technician indicated that computer is not communicating and that I needed to drive a car for at least 100 miles, after Driving 100 miles the computer still not communicating, am I missing something or do I just need to drive it some more. Thanks in advance fir your time and God bless.

You need to find out what the smog technician meant when stating the computer was not communicating.

Was the technician unable to actually communicate with the computer wiring or computer problems, or was the technician unable to perform the emissions test because the computer was not "ready?"

When you disconnected the battery the computer may have cleared all the readiness checks that had been stored in the computer. The computer continually does self checks of the various systems on the car and if OK sets a readiness flag. The self checks can require driving the car at a specified MPH for a specified time with a specified throttle setting, etc then perhaps repeating this check again. There may be 10 plus checks and for the computer to be in a ready state typically for a states emission test all checks must be complete.

When an emissions test is done on this car the tester plugs into the cars OBDII system to determine if the computer is ready, as in all checks are complete. If all checks are not complete (or whatever your state says are enough checks) the car will not be tested.

Some emissions test sites will loan out a device which plugs into the ODBII socket and will notify the driver via a light the all checks are complete. An alternative is to use an OBDII scanner device.

Thank you so much for your kindness. Yes the smog technician was not able to perform a smog test due to the fact it was not ready as you state, I guess I will trying driving as you and the smog tech. suggest.
again thank you very much for your precious time and God bless.
