The engine actually quits and the dash lights come on? The starter then engages to start the engine?
Or just very low idle which corrects itself?
Does the car have a remote start system installed or any added system that could allow the engine to start without having the ign key to start?
Any wiring issues such as damage, perhaps rodents chewing on wiring?
At what RPM does the engine idle when in gear?

Only shifting into Park causes the engine to shut off then restart, no other gear causes this?
The ign switch is two switches ganged together, AM1 and AM2.
The P/N switch prevents power from the AM1 ign switch going to the starter relay solenoid. The relay then powers the starter solenoid.
To engage the starter, requires the trans to be in P/N and the ign AM1 switch turned to start.
To turn the engine off requires the AM2 switch to open cutting off power to the circuits needed to operate the engine.
Is the ign switch OK?
If the starter circuit is engaged when the trans is in P, something would need to turn this circuit off.
No wiring issues or remote start?

Park the car in an open space where if it starts and moves forward or back nothing will be hurt. Put emergency brake on and have foot on brake.
Try starting the engine in any gear but P and N. If the P/N switch is working OK, the starter will only engage in P and N.
When the engine starts by itself when trans placed in P or N, does the starter disengage after the engine starts or keeping operating?
Once again, does the car have a remote start! Did any one modify the wiring, add any third party device, change the wiring, etc.
