Need car help. Will pay $$$ for advice.
 

Hi, I'm a new member, but have been a reader for a while.

I'm looking for quick and useful help so I'm willing to pay $100 or more (depending on helpfulness) for a solution to the issue I'm having. I'll Paypal or mail the money. Anyway:

A locksmith attempted to program a key fob to my 2010 Toyota Camry XLE with push button start. In the process, he ruined the programming on the security ID box and the car is dead. It won't start or turn on. It's completely dead.

I towed the car to Toyota and they want $2,723 to replace the Security ID box, Certification ECU, program a new key fob, etc. Toyota says there is about 7 hours of labor involved because they have to take apart the dash.

Toyota says they can't do anything with the current equipment on the car because they tried reprogramming the car, but it won't work. That doesn't sound right to me. They made the system and can't reprogram it? All they need to do is program a unit in the car, but are trying to justify $2,723.

I want to know what my options are. I was thinking of installing an aftermarket security alarm with push button support but don't know if that will fix anything since I believe after market security alarms build on top of factory alarms.

I'm working with the locksmith on a solution but it already looks like I'll have to involve the court because their not taking responsibility.

The car is not running at all. It doesn't even turn on according to Toyota who currently have it.

What would you do in this situation?

I would talk to a lawyer who offers free consultations about options to sue the locksmith.
I would imagine that the locksmith is insured for such instances as most business are.
Take what info you get from the lawyer and lay it on thick with the locksmith.
That guy has made your car useless and he needs to do the right thing.
