OBD II connectivity

OBD II connectivity
My check engine light is flickering. It goes on and stays on for a few days and goes off again.
I tried to read the codes using OBD II at the parts store and it didn't work. Took it to the dealer and they couldn't read it either. The dealer wants to replace the computer without checking anything else.
A few months ago I was at the dealer and they could read the codes without trouble.
Has anyone seen a similar problem? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

RE: OBD II connectivity
Got out my voltometer to check the OBD II connector. The power pin was dead. I checked the wiring diagrams and found a fuse for the OBD. When I pulled it it was of course burned.
Swapped the fuse and the reader works fine. I'm just lucky I didn't trust the dealer who was asking $1600 to replace the computer when the real problem was a $0.90 fuse.

RE: OBD II connectivity
Depends on year of Camry and engine type.
From 1996 and on Camry used ODBII.
From thinking 1994ish and on, the Camry with V6 option had OBDII. Look for a sticker on the engine hood stating if the system is ODBII complient.
If ODBII you will need a code reader available at most auto parts stores, Wal-Mart, etc. AutoZone will also read the codes for free and perhaps other parts stores.
If years prior to the above the system is ODBI and has a built in readout light to indicate codes.
