Overdrive

My overdrive light flashes as O/D off when the engine is warm...I have 1996 camry vienta is this normal?

A flashing O/D light is the sign a trouble code is stored in the trans computer. The computer is constantly monitoring the various trans solenoids, etc. If the car is equipped with a diagnostic box you can download any codes yourself.

Look inside the engine compartment for a small plastic box, might be mounted on the passengers or drivers strut tower (location where the upper portion of the strut mounts). If the car has the box, open it and look for the Tt and E1 terminals. If you find all these post back for more instructions.

Ho toyomoho
I found the box & yes it has both Tt & E1 inside. The T/t seems to be just bare, where as the E1 has a silver solenoid , so it seems.

If no Tt terminal is installed you may be able to use a code reader hooked up to the cars diagnostic system plug.

The Vienta is a non-US Camry car and would have a different diagnostic system I am not up on.

If you are in Australia ask about your situation at the site below:

Camry Club - Toyota Owners Club - Australia

Ask about downloading transmission trouble codes at auto parts stores, auto shops, etc and determine what code reader is required. Someone may also be able to do the job for a small fee.

But it appears this model no longer has the DIY method to read out codes.
