radiator wont come on. relays?
 

hi there. I was having some over heating issues with my 2000 Toyota camry, 4 cyl 2.2. the thermostat wasn't opening up so I replaced that and it seemed to help a lot but the gauge still goes over the middle point. I noticed the radiator fans aren't coming on. I replaced the temperature sensor and the cooling fan switch, still they don't seem to come on. I used my ohm meter to check the relays. the resistance across the leads where power is supplied is about 100 ohms on fan one and about 88 to 90 on two and three. when I hook them up to a power supply the click on but when I checked for continuity across the leads that were closed one of them read about 1.5 ohms (on fan 3). I'm not sure if this is an issue. when I was burping the system the fans never came on and when I put the cap back on and let it idle they wouldn't come on. I revved the engine a little and the gauge started for the red zone but still the fans never came on. could it be a relay issue? what else should I check. one last note: when it started over heating while idling the fan one relay was hot to the touch, I don't know if that means anything. the test drive never got too far over the middle mark though.

Do the fans turn on when the A/C is on and then the compressor cycles on?

Disconnect the electrical plug from the coolant temp switch on the bottom of the radiator. The fans should turn on.

If you spin the radiator fan blades by hand (with the CAR OFF) and it stops/is hard to turn instead of continuing to spin, then I'm pretty sure the motor is toast.
