Toyota Camry Tachometer

Hi all, I just bought a tach for my Toyota Camry, a manual without a tach!!!

I was wondering if anyone knows how to route the wires through the firewall easily, there is no easy way that I can see. Worse case I might have to go through the speedometer grommet. Also anyone know a good "hot" wire thats only on when the key is in the on position.

Thanks in advance

Might try power off the Gauge fuse, Yellow wire.

I just bought a small tach for my 90 Camry. Running the wire through the firewall is not a problem because there is a huge rubber plug on the driver's side below the brake booster. It's very hard to get to, but I managed. I just made a slice in it with a razor knife, then tape a wire end to the end of a long screwdriver and push it through. So far, I've used that same hole for 5 other wires, most of which are for the alarm.

Now for my question: Can anyone tell me which wire to splice my green tach wire to? The coil is inside the distributor cap (as most of you probably know) so I'm not sure which wire on the outside of the distributor is the NEGATIVE COIL WIRE. My Chilton's wiring diagram shows the color as "WL", whatever the heck that color is! I know "W" means White, and "L" usually means "Light color", so what the heck is "WL"???

If anyone can tell me which wire (what color/stripe color) to hook my tach wire to my 1990 Camry, I would very much appreciate your help.

BTW, my engine is the 16v 2000cc 2L inline 4.

Thanks much!
