05 Camry Air filter Seal
 

I just changed air filter on 2005 camry LE with a new OEM filter from toyota dealer.
The filter that I removed (installed previously at local lube shop) from the car (unknown brand) has a black rubber seal around it but the new camry air filter has no seal and the existing seal (removed from old filter) will not fit the newer OEM filter as the new filter is too thick for the seal.

My question is:
- Is there any type of air filter seal that needs to be installed with a new OEM air filter for this Camry?

The Toyota filter is stated to have a polyurethane frame to allow sealing.

After market filters may use silicone or other materials.

Have you tried just fitting the Toyota filter inside the box without the extra seal?

Yes the OEM filter sits perfectly in the box without the seal. To allay my concerns I verified a new fram filter and it is just like OEM and it is without seal too (previously it had seal).....

I think you are right the corners of the the OEM filter are thick enough that a seal is not required.
