Default 1992 automatic Camry LE tranny/diff fluid

After reading the turboninjas camry maintenance manual, it says that my car has seperate pans for tranny fluid and diff fluid, both using the regular ATF dex.....but the toyota mechanic tells me that they share the same. Which is correct? I just now drained the transmission fluid, and am going to fill that up to the cool indicator as indicated by the manual...I have a feeling the mechanic is mistaken..maybe he thinks I have a manual? in which case the diff and tranny share the same fluid? Am i in the right ballpark? thanks!

I seem to have overshot the full mark by about an inch over the line on the dipstick..The manual said 2.6Q...probably only needed 2Q for a drain and refill it seems..good thing I check and recheck fluids after a change..so its all good, and in the right range now. The tranny was getting a little shudder, which I think I got rid of totally with the change. feels great now
