I can't shift my car into park. I can get into reverse, drive, and neutral. Not sure what's going on

 

Is the trans itself not in park? This issue being the shifter mechanism is out of adjustment or another problem?

If not in park, determine if the shifter is still shifting the trans itself into 1st gear. That the shift mechanism has now come out of adjustment and move one gear off.

Check if anything is jammed into the shifter mechanism to prevent its movement forward.

Watch the shift cable and shift lever at the trans case for anything unusual.

If handy with tools. Engine off and emergency brake set. Disconnect the shift cable from the trans arm. Determine if the car shifter now moves to park.

With cable disconnected, determine if the trans shift lever moves through all gears.
