92-96 Camry Road Racing car

New to the forum, so not sure where to post this, why not start here......

Looking to build a touring car out of a Toyota Camry for Sports Car Club of America club racing events. I currently own a 2000 LE as a daily driver and was looking at it for a while the other day and thought that it would make an attractive race car! I did a little research, and apparently it is not a popular platform to make a race car out of......But I think that it would be a great handling car if you drop it down a bit and stiffen it up. On that note - looking for a 92-96 V6 with a manual as a platform.

First question - is this the only year group that has a manual paired with a V6 (not enough horse power from the i4 for class the car will be in, need a V6)

Second question - has anyone on here made a road racing car out of a Camry before? I am talking about road courses like Virginia International Raceway - not looking to drag race or street race.

Below is a pic of what i am trying to create - couldn't hunt down the owners of this car - so figured I would try here!

Thanks in advance.

The 92-96 Camry (Generation 4) were very good cars.

Rear disk brakes were standard with V6 or optional antilock brakes.

A stick might have been an option for the V6 until 2003.

There were a couple of V6 engines offered around 1992-93. Get a car (maybe 1994 and on) with the 1MZ-FE engine (used until around 2007ish-with improvements of course) as it was standard for many Toyota models. Parts would be more readily available.

Edmunds.com has links as the one below with info on specific years of car, but suggest double checking any important specs with other sources.

As to racing. Suggest checking around at the Toyotanation website, Camry section. More members, more mods, perhaps links to racing clubs, etc.

Because of its reputation for fuel economy, the 92 and 96 Camry is a cost-effective option for those trying to cut back on their petrol usage. Good fuel efficiency is a result of the aerodynamic design and efficient engines.
