98 camry oil leak on right side of motor...

Hi My hubby's care is leaking oil from the right side of the motor, We are thinking a gasket or seal.It only leaks when we start the motor, and then it drips , and drips. We have had it sitting for the past week, because a neighbor said he would look at it, now he has backed out. We want to take it to a mechanic and not get ripped off. How much should we expect to pay?? Everything else works fine on the car, and the timing belt was replaced at 90,000 miles( about 3 yrs ago ). Any help, ideas would be great . thanks .

if its leaking behind the timing belt youwill spend around $800. if its the valve cover $150. if they find other problems related to the repair the price will change.

If only leaking when engine is on might be the oil pump seal. Safely jack up the car, remove the tire, start engine and take a closer look.

Keep an eye on the oil level as this type of leak can empty the oil pan pretty fast.

Hello,
My experience is with a 92 Camry (and other vehicles). This should be fairly cheap and easy try. I replaced the pcv valve that is normally supposed to vent the oil system. If the pcv valve is not working the oil system will pressurize and force oil out of the weaker gaskets. I hope this works for you and I invite other comments.
