I have searched and could not find the answer I am look for so thought to post .

Is a 1995 2.2 from a Camry able to fit in a 1998 Camry ? I have spoke with a Toyota tech who said it is compatable but the guy doing the engine swap says it is not . Any help is truly appreciated , cheers

Do you just want to drop the engine in, need a short block, etc.

The engine will fit but the 95 and 98 have differences plus depends on if engine is California or 48 states emissions. Such things as fuel and ign system. You will need to swap parts.

The basic block is the same.

Thanks for your input Joey , it is appreciated . I have found a 120 k 2.2 from a 2000 I will put in my 1998( plug and play) and will put a few parts on the 1995 I purchased just for the engine and restore in the next few months for my daughter who turns 16 this spring, kind of a win/win I guess . 1995 has 180 k on it and the 98 has under 200 k also . Lots of life left in both these Camrys , just love the dependability and durability of these cars , cheers and thx again .

1. A 5S block is a 5S block. So the holes on the block for the front and rear engine mount are there on both blocks (95 and 98).

Just make sure that the new engine your getting is from a Camry. My buddy and I swapped a 5S-FE from a Celica into a 94 Camry. On that block (5S-FE from Celica) there was only 1 or 2 holes for the rear engine mount, so we had to drill and tap the block for the other mounting holes.

2. Theres 4 mounts on a gen 3 Camry (92 - 96). Front engine mount, rear engine mount, dogbone mount, and tranny mount (on the bottom of the tranny).

It should be the same on a gen 4 Camry (97 - 01).

3. 92 - 96 Camrys (Gen 3) have distributors and return fuel systems.

97 - 01 Camrys (Gen 4) have DIS (distributorless ignition system) and returnless fuel systems.

So good luck trying to get that to work.

I would trust the one who do the engine swap since the guy knows it more...
