ac pulley

I HAVE A 96 CAMRY AND I NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE PULLEYS WOBBLES. I HAD TO GET MY BELTS CHANGED AND I ASKED ABOUT tHE PULLEY. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE AC PULLEY BARRINGS ARE OLD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT IT IS NOT A BIG DEAL TO DO RIGHT NOW. SHOULD I WORRY ABOUT THIS RIGHT NOW? IT ONLY WOBBLES IF THE COMPRESSOR IS RUNNING. CAN THIS CAUSE A BELT TO SLIP OR MESS UP THE REST OF THE ENGINE? THE MECHANIC TOLD ME NOT REALLY A BIG DEAL RIGHT NOW B/C HE SAID IT MAY BE AN EXPENSIVE JOB AND I TOLD HIM THAT I REALLY DIDN'T HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX IT RIGHT NOW IF IT DIDN'T NEED TO BE DONE RIGHT AWAY. ANY ADVICE?

RE: ac pulley

Ask your mechanic if he is certified by anyone, whether it be ase or some other form of certification. The guy is an idiot. you have a belt on there spinning very fast when the ac is on,so your gonna either sling a belt off,or else the pulley is gonna eventually come flying off.A pulley isn't a very expensive thing to replace, and if you have basic knowledge on how to use a ratchet and common tools, you should be able to do it yourself within 2 hours.

RE: ac pulley

I'm ASE certified in A/C so listen to me. What projectcamry is very true, it can very well whip the belt off the car and you will be SOL. The compressors I've pulled apart required an impact wrench to take them off, a simple wratchet wont do it. If money is tight, try to not drive the car, at all. If you need to drive it, than get it repaired soon.
