I am having this same problem now as well. Just changed a ton of parts and realizing that the engine isn't actually running as hot as the gauge reads. Does anyone have a diagram to show me which is the temp-gauge sender? This is very likely the same problem I am having.

Okay I have found the sender and my mechanic replaced it but I am guessing that he had used a non-OEM sender. What is the actual OEM sender? AC Delco? I will call the Toyota Dealership tomorrow when they are open.

This looks like the part I need but it doesn't have the wiring harness connected to the back of it. Anyone know?

Switching to a real OEM Sender fixed my problem. Thanks so much. Even my mechanic couldn't figure out this problem.
