Can I replace a 97 2.2 with a 96 2.2

Are they compatible?I found a great buy on a 96 Camry 2.2 engine and I have a 1997 Camry with adead 2.2.... can I swap them?

Check the ign system. The 1997 may (or may not) have separate cam and crank sensors mounted on the front of the engine. The 1996 may have only a crankshaft sensor.

The older systems routed excess fuel back to the fuel tank, check that they are the same.

Keep all the parts for both engines to allow swapping if required.
