Car shakes on acceleration!!

Hello,
I have a 2012 Camry LE 4 Cyl with 125000 miles on it. it shakes a bit on acceleration, and it shakes up strongly when switching gear 2nd to 3rd (I guess it's 2nd to 3rd gear). I have checked engine mounts and all fine. Any guess to help?

This year of car had a problem with trans shutter. Toyota had a service bulletin to update the trans software if needed replace the torque converter under an extended warranty (which has expired)..

Also check fluid level and condition.

So this issue is covered by Toyota warranty?. If so what should I do? take it to the dealer to check it?

Read the info at the link below and determine if it applies to your car.

A LITTLE UPDATE: I went to the dealer and left the car for couple days, after that they called me and said that the transmission has another issue I need to fix on my own before they can work on the torque converter. I started to argue with them about that and they told me that I can call the Toyota headquarter for that. https://www.toyotanation.com/forum/i...lies/frown.gif I have attached the paper I got from the dealer and I will be happy for any advice from you!. Thanks.

How did the trans issue go from it "shakes a bit on acceleration, and it shakes up strongly when switching gear 2nd to 3rd (I guess it's 2nd to 3rd gear)" to being called transmission flare? Flare is when the RPM revs up between shifts.

What is the dealer proposing to do and who pays for this?

That's what they told me. I didn't fix anything yet and didn't pay anything yet as well. I am looking for some advice.

The dealers service bulletin notes "flare." Flare is the engine revving due to say slippage in the trans. It has happened this flare can be when shifting between 2nd and 3rd. The engine revs then the trans engages perhaps with a jerk. Does your engine flare when shifting or at any other time?.

Look on the side of the driver's door for a sticker. On the sticker should be listed the trans type such as U760E or U660.

When the 2012's came out, some 4 cylinder engine trans had issues of flare and shutter which among other things can sometimes effect 2nd and 3rd shifts.

For flare issues, Toyota had a software update (free) announced to owners via a letter and a service bulletin. The shutter issue was identified in another service bulletin. Toyota may call these things "service campaigns".

You can find out if your car is effected by going to the Toyota website, https://www.toyota.com/recall

Find out if your car is effected.

Did the dealer address just how they would deal with the flare and who pays?

Dealers don't like customers quoting service bulletin info to them as they want to be in control. Some car owners take advantage of service bulletins or don't know anything about cars but read something and want it.

It doesn't pay to argue with a dealer as they have heard it all before and are extremely thick skinned. Dealers are franchises and Toyota Corp typically allows them great latitude to do what they want.

You complaint to the dealer is the symptoms you experience. You read up on these symptoms and are concerned that if they are covered by warranty (or the extended service bulletin), you want them fixed under warranty. If you don't want to deal with this dealer. Suggest you take the car to another dealer and make your compliant. They will know of course you saw some other dealer as this is on file. You just want another opinion. When the dealer gets into the flare issue, inquire as to what it means for them to "address" this issue and who will pay.

The flare and shudder issues are well known. It's not like the dealer should be surprised. The dealer should have a known course of action based on the symptoms.

If you go up the chain to Toyota customer support they will ask if you allowed the dealer to attempt to fix the issue. This action will also turn off the dealer.

Thanks for answering me,

I have checked the recall page before. The only recall my car has is the one "Safety Recall D0T Remedy Notice" and It's about the drain hose for the air conditioning. Dealer fixed it at the same time when I went for the shuddering issue. My car's engine flares on acceleration and shakes up big on shifting 2nd to 3rd gear.

Dealer said the there is an expert from Toyota, and he gives the final decision. He drove my car and decided that car has another issue need to be fixed first. Dealer advised me to call the Toyota headquarter to complain about that and to get an estimate about how much it will cost to fix the car  .

Anyway I need to go back to the dealer since when they worked on my car recall regarding the drain hose for the air condition, they pulled out the center console and it looks like they didn't plug in back the 12-volt power outlet when they finished working, and now there is no power coming from that plug.

It's just a big mess, and I am still lost.
