Default Do timing belts & others need to be changed after 100k/mi?

I've heard some say that with some brands such as Toyota, Honda, etc. that the timing belts don't necessarily need to be changed, but then I've heard that it is vital. I have a 1997 Toyota Camry LE that currently has a little over 126,000mi on it. I purchased it when it had around 94-97,000mi so I don't know if the belts had been changed or anything, since it was purchased as a used vehicle from the Honda/Toyota dealership.
How vital is it to change the belt and what other belts should I be aware of changing? How much should I expect to change for a new timing belt & installation..and can any of these belts be changed DIY?
thanks for your help!

Check for a sticker on the timing belt cover indicating possible belt change. Toyota does not have a fixed mileage on the belt but states to inspect it. Do not recommend this approach as unless obvious damage it can be difficult to how many miles are left on the belt.

Belts do not last forever. Breakage has occured from around 120K and up. If it breaks unlike Honda the engine not be damaged but you will need a tow.

Replacement cost ranges from around $200-250 at third party shops and up to $500 at the Toyota dealer.

Yes you can change the belt yourself but it is time consuming and requires a few tools. Read up on the process at the AutoZone website in their Vehicle Repair section.
