Help plz - changing Tranny oil?
 

hi,

i have a family member that wants me to help them change the tranny fluid on their
2000 Toyota Camry, Auto 4 cylinder.

Ive read that the tranny has its own tranny pan and hex bolt for draining?

where, how do you refill? and do i need any special cleaners/seafoam or equipment for getting all the tranny fluid out?

Your only going to get about half the fluid out by just dropping the pan and refilling. Your better off doing a full flush.

wow did everyone just realize they need to change their transmission fluids? theres been a ton of thread started here and on various other forums i am on...sheesh.

remove the hex bolt and refill through the transmission fluid dipstick hole. simple as that. I dont have my haynes manual at college with me, but i think for a drain and fill its about 4 quarts of fluid.

disregard other's comments about flushes. I have done one professionally and although it does a great job, it is not worth the time and gas and money.

If the fluid is still dirty after driving a hundred miles after a drain and fill, you can do it once more. It still won't cost you 100 dollars to drain and fill 3 - 4 times on the vehicle.

It's real simple. Just make sure to never fill above the HOT mark on the tranny dipstick. fill it up, change the car through its gears and then re-check level before driving off.

I was speaking of a full flush by machine, not the manual full flush. It takes no time at all to do a full flush at a lube place or dealership (highly recommend sticking with Toyota tranny oil) and you will have all new fluid in just a few minutes.

Took my gen4 two hours to do a machine flush because i was told it was a low pressure system (i watched the machine).

took my mercury villager in, to do the same thing on the same machine - that took 10 minutes.
