HELP - stuck axle shafts - 96 camry 2.2 AT?

hey guys,
i'm doing a swap on a 96 camry2.2 AT (161k on the body) but can't get the left or right axle shaft out
looks like i need to remove the snap ring from the right hand shaft before that will come out (already done the lock bolt) but the left hand shaft won't come out either
any suggestions?

are they the type of axels that pop out. there are some that bolt and some that just push into the tranny with the snap ring.

Bolt on half shafts???? Never heard of such thing. Jam a pry bar between the axle and the trans and pry that thing out.

there is a lock bolt on the right hand axle shaft and a lock ring, but i still can't figure out why the left hand shaft won't come out

The 89-92 camrys had bolt on half shafts. there is a plate on those models with 8 studs on each side. which is attached the the transaxle.

When I replaced the axles on my 92, the left side was no problem. The right side was the worst and most frustrating repair I've ever done on any car. I hammered on that axle housing for 5 hours with a sledge hammer and that thing never moved, at all. The bearing had frozen in place in at the end of the pilot shaft. I left that section in and only replaced the outside portion of the axle and called it a day. I'm sure you can do the same.

As for the left side, there's a clip that needs to come off, then it needs a good whack to get it to pop out.
