How to replace valve stem seals on 97 Camry

Hello, I need to replace my valve stem seals on my 97 V6 Camry. Can I change them with the heads already on and what type of valve spring compressor can I use to get the valve springs off with. I will be injecting air in to hold the valves, I have heard that you can put a piece of rope into the cylinder.

if you go to napa auto part, or if not a snap on dealer...they is have a special valve tool that bolt to the cap bearing thread to secure it self and have rocker type lever to compress the spring...and inject air into the cylinder don't try the rope trick...

Thanks for replying.when I put the new seals on the heads how far should I push the down, do the click on when they are at the correct height over the valve guides?

yeah I have to replace those too. Expensive process though, but it helps to stop the white smoke from the tailpipe for everytime you start the car.

Has anyone changed out the valve seals on the V6? I am wondering if it can bee doen without pulling off the heads?

it can be done but the cylinder heads in the back toward the firewall is a pain....also check for engine sludge, if so recommend pulling the heads out and inspecting the cylinder walls...and removing the oil pan to clean out the crank case...almost forgot the valve covers, the baffles will need to be cleaned.
