Ignition Coil Spring Upgrade
 

I am posting here to gather some opinions or even some experiences from people who may have already done this. I have a 2010 Camry SE 2.5L. I am thinking of modifying my ignition coils by removing the coil springs and replacing them with tubes of beryllium copper. This is something that has been done for Chevy Colorados/GMC Canyons with much success. Any advice would be appreciated.

Don't know. Is the product available for your engines ign system and can Toyota coils be taken apart?

One question need asking is; if an aftermarket product really improved things why isn't the vehicle manufacturer using it. Manufacturers spend mega millions trying to improve mpg and reduce emissions. Something like this might cost a dollar if purchased in mass quantities, so why wouldn't a OEM use it? Just something to think about when reviewing after market products.

I'm curious and how come just on Canyons and Colorados and nothing else?

to toyomoho: i'm not sure why something like this hadn't been considered by the OEMs if it would make their cars more perform better and thus more diserable to buyers. I'm sure there are many reasons for this. I've poked around online at toyota coils and based off what i have seen, the springs can be pooped out of them like a lot of other coils for different makes of cars.

to patonium: I mentioned only the colorados/canyons because I own a colorado myself and therefore the reason why I know of this modification. it's totally possible that other types of cars have had this done, but i simply haven't looked for them.

Perhaps try the mod on the Colorado first then check MPG changes, etc. If worth it check into Camry.

If into experimenting, beryllium tubing and even springs are available to make your own.
