Default Engine Replacement 2001 Camry Suggestion

I am in need of suggestions for a Rebuilt / Re-manufactured engine company for my 2001 Camry with a "G" vin. Current engine died due to extreme overheating and I want to keep this car.

Thank you for your help in advance....Chris

There are good low mileage engines for sale from Japan on Ebay.

Rockauto sells long blocks, might inquire there.

Jasper and others sells them also.

Used Japan imported engines can be slightly different then US market.

Make sure you get the engine for your cars emissions build, either Federal or California standard. Shop by your cars VIN.

Try to get the exact year of engine as Toyota made changes to the 5SFE such as ign system type.

What is 5SFE.
Just bought a Japanese engine everything worked well except the knock sensor had one pin instead of two pins resulting in a engine light P0325.
Trying find out what to do. Any advice would be appreciated.

The 5SFE is the 4 cylinder engine model which was used in Camry from 1992 to 2001.

However this model has had changes over the years such as emissions, ign, crankshaft, camshaft, head and block design, etc plus there is both Federal and California emissions builds.

Engines from Japan can be a 5SFE but have other changes.

All are 5SFE engines but they can be slightly different. Since the cars computer is programmed and wired to a specific 5SFE engine, changing to another engine that's slightly different can have issues.

As to the knock sensor can you swap the one pin out for the two?

We unscrewed the post that held the knock sensor on the car and threaded the new knock sensor into the hole.
Problem solved.
