my buddy has a 94 cam with same engine as mine (5sfe ) and well hes got 2 questions that ive no idea about how to answer.

One- refer to picture below, what is this little box for? when i upgraded to a cold air i just tossed mine but he doesnt want to but wants to know what it is.

Two- This plate that covers the stock headers, seems to me like it jsut soaks up heat and holds it in only to disperse it to other parts of the engine, right now its on mine covering my shiny new headers but idk if itll run alright without it.

The highlighted part is called a resonator. I believe it serves to somewhat silence the intake while at the same time catching any water that might be ingested though the intake.

that is the resonator like the other poster suggested its most valueable asset is that it holds the evap system vsv valve in place. The other high lighted part is just a heat shield it can be removed but you engine will run alot hotter because the heat from your exhaust will go to your radiator!

You can run without the heatshield. Everything under the hood will be a lot hotter then normal.

lavalleemike: How would the heat from the exhaust go to the radiator when the radiator has fans that draw air in from outside the car?
