Need help with 2003 2AZ
 

Hey guys, I'm in need of some help. What I'm asking for is simple.
All I need is a picture of both camshafts installed with the markings all at TDC. I want to see where the lobes are pointing. Hope that makes sense.

No photo but the drawing has:

Intake cam.

No 1 cyl pointing toward firewall, No 2 up, No 3 up or down (can't tell) and No 4 pointing toward radiator.

Exhaust cam.

No 1 pointing toward radiator, No 2 and 3 up or down (?) and No 4 pointing toward firewall.

Just clarify.
My car is a Camry 2003 year model. (Production date 12/2002) it's the 4cyl 2.4 engine.

I say this because my cam lobes don't point the same way.

Here is the way my lobes point.

Intake
#1 to the fire wall
#2 almost straight up
#3 just after straight down position
#4 just before straight down position or starting to push down the valve

Exhaust
#1 almost straight up. ( just before that)
#2 almost half way to pointing down
#3 almost pointing down. (Just after that)
# 4 almost perfectly straight down.

If you line up the gear marks with marks on chain, the cam position should take care of itself. Toyota has no reference to lobe position only to timing marks.

The block had stripped threads for the cylinder head bolts.
After going back together, the engine will not fire up.

I have spark, injector noid, fuel pressure.
Engine cranks over, but just pops every now and then.
Intake cam was removed, as a complete piece.

Chain link marks line up with camshaft sprockets and cams line up with the camshaft caps. The crank mark lines up with the chain link. 1 cylinder is at its highest stroke. Tdc.

All I can think of is the VVT

I don't have shop air at the moment. Don't want to take the intake cam apart.

Follow the valve check clearance procedures to determine if the cam lobes are where they should be based on crank/cam orientation per the procedures. If everything lines up when checking the valves then should be good.

Set crank at 0 degrees and timing gears marks to marks on chain (No 1 at compression).

Should be 7 full links between cam marks.

Check the following valves: No 1 and 2 intake. No 1 and 3 exhaust.

Rotate crank crank CW 360 degrees (No 4 at compression).

Check No 3 and 4 intake. No 2 and 4 exhaust.

Valve clearance: Intake 0.0075-0.0114 inch. Exhaust 0.0118-0.0157 inch.
