R12 to R134a retrofit
 

I'm a newbie to the board and did a quick search to see if this had already been covered so forgive me if it has. I have 91 camry 4 cyl. that just quit blowing cold air from the A/C. Has anyone done a conversion to 134a? I did a search on the net and some say the compressor will need to be replaced, some just the dryer, some all the o-rings. Anybody have any information pertaining to this certain model year?
I appreciate the input!

i believe you have to use the old freeon. From what i know the new fluid doesnt work well or work at all with older systems.

only replace the compressor if you need it....definetly replace the receiver drier...and replace the oring if they are leaking....unfortunetly you have to take it to a shop to have it diagnosed for leaks and any other problem that you may have...
also switch to r134,,its cheaper in the long run..it does not get as cold as r12 ...but it will blow mid 40 deg. temp out the vents..

mmm ... well i've done this in my old caprice that is working on a toyota compressor & what the tech did is that he flushed the old r12 gas out of it & checked the sys for no leaks & changed the o rings as to seal the pipes as well as the tube filter then poured the compatible compressor oil work with the 134a gas & fill it to the correct level .... wala ... freezing air :)

& i belive that it should work with u as well but see what is the tech is gonna tell u about it & best of luck ;)
