Default seized engine?

I have a 94 camry 3.0L V6 (1mzfe). I was driving with the oil light on, and the car starts making a weird noise, so I quickly pull over. As soon as I left off of the gas, the car dies. Checked the oil, it was dry. I got some more oil and filled the car up. Luckily, I got it started but it was making really loud knocking noises, esp at higher revs. It would stall out a lot, but everytime I was able to restart it. Now the engine wont even turn over. What are my options?
Possibly rebuild the engine or find a replacement? I'm looking to spend less than $1200.
Thanks.

Unless you do the work yourself you never rebuild it for this price, suggest a used engine.

Check newspapers, craigslist, etc for cars being parted out. There are also web based dealers such as the link below:

Plus online auto junk yards that ship parts. Did you ask if the yards could locate an engine and have it shipped to you.

Suggest you check out the website www.toyotanation.com and ask about decent outlets for used engines. There have been some importers getting them from Japan.

And expand your search to Toyota models that used this engine. Toyota must have made millions of them.
