Vacuum Leak / Missing hose
 

Hey guys, I'm a little new to this, but here's my problem.
I've been suspecting, for several reasons, that I had a vacuum leak somewhere. So yesterday I finally got around to doing a smoke test. Well it didn't take long to find where the smoke was coming out, right behind the engine there is a little hose connection sticking out, but no hose in sight to connect to it. I looked through as many schematics and diagrams I could, and couldn't find anything. Does anyone know what this is, or what it connects to?

From the drivers side, look under the throttle body for another tube that points down or a hose connected to it. a hose runs from tube in your photo to this tube.

So I looked and there is nothing disconnected or loose on the throttle body, but thanks for the advice.

While I was looking some more, I came across the EGR VSV, and noticed there was something disconnected from it. When I was looking up VSVs in my haynes manual as well as online, I figured out that mine does not look like it's supposed too.

It makes me wonder if the two are related? Anyone an expert on EGR systems?

The tube in the first post photos is between the 2nd and 3rd injectors?

The 95 Camry came in two versions, Federal and California state emissions. Each is slightly different which might explain your issue with not looking like the info you are finding.

Look under the hood for a sticker stating CALIF or FEDERAL, or something to this affect.

From all the documentation I could find, and not seeing any california sticker, I'm pretty sure it's been in Utah it's whole life.

And it looks it's next 15 (or 5)?

The California emissions car has a hose running from this spot to the IAC valve. The federal car has no such hose. Perhaps something was changed on the engine.

If no other vacant hose connection, suggest connecting a hose to the tube and capping it off.

So I don't see the vacant hose on the IAC valve.

But I started my car and went to check if the hose port was sucking air in, or blowing it out. And it's definitely for suction, when i put my finger close, it pulled it pretty hard. And when my finger tip cut off the suction, the engine just about died. So I can't just plug it.

Any other thoughts?

Look under the hood for a diagram showing the vacuum hose layout, perhaps this hose is on the diagram.

Your engine may have been modified by someone, or federal-California emissions parts swapped.

Assuming your engine setup is correct. If the tube is drawing air, it should be drawing filtered air. Look for tube connections on the filtered air side of the air intake system. Such as on the filtered air side of the air filter box, along the intake air tube, etc.
