03Camry idling low, cutting off, etc

03 Camry ... cranks fine when engine cold. If I go somewhere, such as stopping for gas or a quick grocery run, where I try to restart the car before the engine has cooled, it will not crank unless I pump the gas. Also it will idle low, like one line above 0. Here in the last few days, I have had the added fun of trying to get out of a parking lot (short stretches, start/stop) and the engine will cut off randomly when I stop or slow down.

Backstory ... was doing the same thing a few years ago and local Mechanic replaced the VSV valve. Local Mechanic is now out of business (old man retired, not because of bad service).

Suggestions? Replace VSV valve again? Find a new mechanic and get them to troubleshoot?

Engine type 4 cylinder or V-6?

The car has more then one VSV.

Thanks for asking, Joey. It's a 4 cylinder LE. 187,000 half halfway / half city.

You sure it was a VSV and not something called an ETC sensor?
