1989 camry ecm matching
So I have a 89 camry that I think may have a faulty ecm . I was thinking of buying a used replacement off ebay but I'm not sure how to match them
To my year of vehicle . If anybody knows how to check the operation of the ecm please provide instruction on how to test it . On the ecm in my vehicle it has a sticker which says 3sfe and a bar code. With the numbers 1750023001 and 896132351 which I think is the part number . Also if I were to purchase a replacement unit would it have to be programmed by the dealer or do I only have to catch the unit for type of transmission and state emissions . Thanks for all the help .

Is the "896132351" number correct?
The number 8966132351 is an ECM for this year and model (among many).
ECM programming is fixed, need one specific to year, make, engine, trans, emissions type, etc.
Actually testing of the ECM is limited and tests depend on the problem symptoms.
Replacing the computer is advised if all other system components check out along with wiring, etc (assuming the ECM is involved in its operation). This leaving the computer as the default cause, after a process of eliminating other possible faults.
Recheck the part number above and find an exact replacement. The job then becomes a remove and replace fix.
Look up possible ECM's on Ebay by year, make, model. When you figure out the correct number, an internet search will turn up many hits.

Ebay and other listings will be by the 89661-32351 number. Find a used replacement having this number. There is a good market for used computers.
Ebay is typically the cheapest, but there may be internet site selling used computers.
Disconnect battery before disconnecting computer wiring.
