https://www.camryforums.com/forum/%3...%22%3E%3C/a%3EMy car has 112,000 on it... it has been in my family since it was new.
It knocks slightly for a bit when I start it up.
My mechanic is going to change the oil to 10W 40.

Just wondering what you guys think.

I don't burn oil and never have a problem passing my smog tests.

Thanks for your help or feedback.

Any chance of engine sludge?

What weight of oil is currently being used?

Where is the noise coming from? Under the valve cover, engine block, etc.

Did you have the oil filter changed prior to the knocking noise occuring?

all my cars, what ever brand, seem to develop a mechanical noise / knock on start up. can't remember at what miles, but
by 125K miles, they all have it despite frequent oil changes, more often than recommended.

So I stopped worrying about it and drove them. never an automotive engine mechanical failure.
Think of it as an aging noise; like listening to 78 yr old folks on the porch talking the 'good old days'...

$.02

Hey I like that... and by the way, I have a friend that lives up off the Rogue River up there.
I'm just going to use 10w 40 like my mechanic suggested.

That was wrong, he changed it to 20W 50
He said after 100K miles this needs to be done.
Going to flush it next time.
