1994 camry 4 cyl no spark
I need some help with a 1994 camry 4 cyl, 60,000 miles. Car was running fine, parked it, came back 2 hours later, and it cranked fine but barely would run- was sputtering, then shut off. I had just filled up so I replaced fuel filter, checked fuel pressure-ok. checked spark- sometimes have spark sometimes no spark. I was able to get it running- barely- no power, would only get to 1000 rpm - Took to shop- mechanic said it needs a distributor and maybe time to replace timing belt etc. I replaced the distributor and still no spark. I had the ignition module tested-ok. What else can I check? Should I replace the ECM?

Is the coil in the distributor or by itself?
It sometimes happens that the timing belt can slip due to a tooth shearing off. You can check this by lining up crank at TDC with No 1 cylinder at compression. Check dist rotor location, should be where the No 1 dist electrode is. The ECM rarely fails would replace this last if all else is is found OK. |
The coil is in the distributor.
I rechecked the timing , it was ok I purchased a used ECM, started right up, and is running ok. Thanks for your reply. Mike K |
