1995 Camry LE Brake Line Leak
 

I've developed a rustout leak in my brake line just below the rear of
drivers door. I've traced the line to replace it and I can't believe that
there doesn't seem to be any unions from the front to the back of this
Camry... Has ABS by the way....

Question 1. Does someone know the size of this line so I can pick some
fittings up early tomorrow AM prior to starting this project.

Question 2. Am I being foolish if I find a decent section to do a splice
from the front of the car as well as a splice at the rear of the car where
the line appears to be intact. Please note, if you've been where I am,
the routing of this line is nothing less than a small nightmare if you are
familiar with this vehicle.

OK, one more. Is there any chance of finding some illustrations on this
routing, because I'll be dammed if I can find a union here besides the
connections at the ABS, Master Cylinder, and where the steel line meets
the rear brake hoses.

You can probably find off the shelf brake line and fittings that will replace the rusted part. Is the rusted area a straight run or bent. Brake line can be bent to fit. You will need a flare tool and threaded couplings. The Toyo line may be metric but you can probably get close enough with stock line.

Ok, In short here's what I did, cut out 5 inches of line at which happened to be
at the rear end of the plastic shroud that "protects this line", 4 unions and roughly
6 flares later, the new line is in..with a slight bend which was needed to adapt the
two connections. I guess the most difficult part of this procedure was to flare lines
that I really couldn't mess with too much or I would have caused kinks, leaks etc.
Strange part was, this area replaced was rusted through and the rest of the lines
were solid on overall with outside rust to some degree.. I gather it was from the
plastic shroud holding frozen snow, ice and salt, which actually did the corrosion
here.. We're up and running again, I know down the road, these lines will become
an issue but I'll worry about it then.....
