So after some searching, it looks like something in my oil pump has gone bad. Looks like its time to do a timing belt while I'm in there too. Judging by the photo and the knowledge that it only leaks when running and when running its a steady stream of oil, what do you think the failure is? Do I need to replace the complete oil pump or just some o-ring I have read about?

What parts would you buy?

Thanks!

If only leaking when running most likely the oil pump drive shaft lip seal.

The pump will need to be taken apart. The drive pulley is held on by a nut, once the pulley is off the combo drive shaft and inner pump gear slides out of the case.

You will need something solid but soft jawed to hold the pump gear and remove the nut.

When reassembling the two pump gears make sure the dot on each gear is facing the same direction.

Suggest buying the parts for a Toyota dealer rather then hunting them down. You need the shaft seal plus a preformed O-ring that goes between pump body and housing behind it.

Prior to fixing check the oil level often! It is possible to lose quarts in as few as 30 miles.

Well you could just get the seals and do it that way. As far as me i would just replace the oil pump! Why take the chance of re doing the seals and the pump going out 1-10k down the road. If you put a new one then you shouldnt have to worry bout it going out or leaking any time in a good couple years or more!
