1998 camry power loss ?
Hi, I have a 1998 Camry with a 2.2L. It is having intermittent power loss, Not all the time, just a few time while driving. I can manage to clear it out by revving the engine. Timing is ok, I replaced coils and wires, a while ago.
The check engine light come on occasionally, but dose not stay on all the time. It feels like fuel or exhaust. Thanks for any help. |
Check light on means a trouble code(s) has been stored. The easiest method is to download any trouble codes.

I agree with Joey. If you don't have an OBD II scanner, go to your local auto parts store, most will scan your system for free.

i have same problem but it seems worse when i drive it runs good while parked but acts up when i put in gear i did have mine diagnosed gave me 4 codes IAT, MAF, knock sensor bank 1@2 was told it could be one of those things but not sure

The codes are po172, and p1130, there is no MAF on this car. I am going to start with a good cleaning, and see what happens. Then replace OX sensor.

P0172 is fuel trim rich meaning mixture is too lean.
P0130 is Bank 1 Sensor 1 02 sensor. Also check for exhaust leaks. Fuel pressure. MAP sensor-seldom fails. Engine coolant temp sensor for computer. If changing 02 sensor use Toyota or Denso brand. If Denso use one specific to car, not a universal type. Note California and Federal emissions cars may use a different sensor. If different, get the one for your cars emission system. |
