2000 Camry starts, will not shift
Hi,
I have a 2000 Toyota Camry whose alternator recently died with the battery light coming on. It was replaced last night and the battery light went off. This morning I started my car fine but the headlights, radio, odometers, and other electrical things would not work. It will also not shift out of Park.
The "door open" light on the dashboard works and the battrry light symbol is now off suggesting the alternator itself is fine. And since the car starts and my battery was fully charged yesterday I do not think my battery is drained.
Any ideas as to what the problem is? I've heard a couple of people suggest that a fuse blew- and while we were changing out the alternator there were some sparks and a popping noise.

Check all fuses including the larger amp ones a few being the 40A MAIN and 40A AM1.
Fuses are located in engine compartment plastic boxes, drivers side.
Plus there is a fuse box behind the dash board ash tray on the drivers side.
