2001 2.2 Runs for about a minute then fuel pump shuts off.
 

I have a 2001 2.2 camry thats been giving me hell with random stall outs to the point that I had it towed home and is now sitting in the garage. I have the back seat out to listen to the fuel pump.

I don't get any joy out of the fuel pump when the key is turned to on without cranking but occasionally I'll crank it and it will run. While it's running, I listen to the pump and hear it working but that only lasts for a minute or so. Then I hear the pump stop running, and a few seconds later the engine dies.

Somebody please help...

The pump will not run unless the ign key is turned to start or engine is running.

Once the engine is running and the key turned to ON, the engine computer senses engine RPM (engine is running) and continues to complete the ground circuit for the fuel pump relay solenoid. The relay then continues to hold the relay switch closed to send power to the pump.

It could be the pump runs when key is turned to start but once the key is turned to ON the relay opens due to some problem. The engine runs until fuel pressure runs too low.

The relay may be located in a relay box, left side labeled CIR OPN Relay.

Relay has 4 active terminals. One one receives 12V power when ign switch turned start, one should be hot when ign on to power the fuel pump when relay switch is closed. One terminal runs to the fuel pump and one to the computer.

The computer ground this terminal to complete the power circuit for the relay solenoid.

Could be a bad relay.
