2003 fuel filter location
 

I understand the fuel filter for this vehicle is located in the gas tank. Can someone explain to me the rational that Toyota is using to determine this as a suitable location?

I have replaced numerous such filtersplaced in more conventional locations, and have found many of them extremely dirty. Why make the filter so unreachable? Is this a maintenance revenue motive?

I agree that this seems pretty stupid but I think Toyo has determined the filternever needs changing. There is a couple of Toyo techs on this forum who maybe can shine a little more light on the reasoning.

I personally would not call it a filter its more like a screen door its mearly their to stop large debris not to filter like say a air filter would thats y toyota has no service interaval on it because it should nove clog with holes so large yes this means smaller particals pass right threw but i have yet to see anymajorissues because of this occasinally a stoped fuel rail due to rust in the fuel system

Sounds like the screen that's always been installed in gas tanks, now sans inline filter. I would look to install an aftermarket changable filter. Debris in fuel rail is more expensive than changing fuel filters.
