2009 camry cold start issues
 

I have a 2009 camry that when it is cold outside will not start without several attempts. What happens is it will crank just fine and for about 1 second it will fire and then die. If you wait for a few minutes and try again it may start for 3 seconds and then die. When it starts for the longer amount of time it does go into the higher rpms for cold start choke mode. The battery is clean and new as it was thought to be a possible issue due to excessive corrosion.All the corrsosion was cleaned from terminals and reinstalled. I have no check engine lights come on during or after this happens. Usually if you wait a little longer like 15 minutes after some attempts it will start and function just fine. This issue happens when the car is cold and been sitting over night or for at least 6 hours or more during the winter months or 40 degrees or less. The oil level is full also. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Took the car to have the codes checked yesterday and they found codes for the security immobilizer? He stated it could be the key, a coil, or the BCM. i had the keys checked last night and they seem okay, so now I am going to have the wife use the car with the extra key we never use and see what happens since it would not fail with them.

I had same issue with my 1995 camry - I cleaned the throttle body and the idle air control (IAC) valve and it started like a champ after that. Not sure about 2009 though.

204chucknorris did you ever resolve the starting issues? if so what was the problem,my camry has been doing the same thing off and on for about 18 months happen about once a month and it is not weather related

It would seem as if i did at this point.I actually swapped out the keys fo rht eother one we never use and so far we have had no issues. I am told it can be the key since it has to do with the Anti-theft system. They told me try this and see what happens as the keys can sometimes fail and cause this. The keys were both tested and tested good, but I figured it could not hurt to try anyway. I hope this is the fix as it has been a few months of success.

It seem the key work perfectly, exactly, there is no harm in trying if it didn't work try to find another way.
