3SFE Timing trick
If you've done a timing belt or had to do the timing on a 3sfe engine then you know what I am about to talk about. This may apply to other engines of the same ilk I am just not familiar with them. But to set the cam timing you're supposed to align a hole in the cam gear with a notch in the bearing cap. When it's in the car that is very difficult to do because you cannot look directly into the hole. I tried to use a piece of wire to see if I can feel that it was in the notch but I could not. So what I did was take a piece of wire and use a paint pen coat the end of the wire with paint put it into the hole and kind of roll it around and then move the crank and see where the paint Mark was relative to the notch. Then I knew whether or not I was in time.
